Abstract

The adiabatic eigenstates of an electron placed in a deformable continuum withelastic anharmonicity are analysed in the framework of a scaling analysis. Thepolaron solutions in an anharmonic continuum are compared with the solutionsin a harmonic approximation. An adiabatic treatment of the ground state of acarrier in an anharmonic continuum is presented here. This procedure enablesthe author to obtain some information about the size of the polaron and itsstability in an anharmonic crystal. The estimates of anharmonic correctionsfor α-sexithiophene and Mo2S3 show that theanharmonicity can affect the electrical-transition properties of materials ina situation in which the charge carriers are polarons.
