Abstract

The adhesive strengths of thin films of metals from subgroups IB, IIIB and IVB of the periodical table (cooper, silver and gold; aluminium and indium; tin and lead) condensed onto a quartz surface were measured by the direct pull technique; both atomically pure surfaces of single crystals and those which had been in contact with air before deposition of the film were investigated. Data on the adhesive strength of the metal films on quartz were obtained. It was shown that the adhesive strength is low and differs little from that for an unclean contact.
