Abstract

The present work concentrates on the influence of particle concentration of α-nano-Al2O3 particles on adhesive strength, microhardness, specific wear rate, and friction behaviour in Ni–Al2O3 composite coating. Nano-Al2O3 particles are co-deposited with electrodeposition of Ni on Al6061 substrate in the standard Watt’s bath solution. Results reveal that at an optimum concentration of 4.5 g/L particle loading for the smooth, low coefficient of friction, enhanced microhardness, and better specific wear rate of the coating. Even though the adhesive strength of coating decreased with the addition of nanoparticles in the coating, it is marginally less but can withstand the higher traction loads. The composite coating has also resulted in the better scratch and specific wear rate with homogeneous distribution of particles.
