Abstract

AbstractThe adhesion behavior of small particles has been studied. A new C++‐based simulation for calculation of van der Waals forces was developed. Particle sizes ranged from few nanometers to several micrometers. Different flattening factors of the particles were considered. Various types and numbers of roughnesses are possible to simulate the surface structure of a particle. Since the simulation is built modularly, it can be easily extended or adjusted. Validation measurements were carried out with the centrifuge method. Magnetic particle systems were used for the experiments, so particle flattening could be induced by an additional magnetic force. A good agreement of the experimental results and simulations could be achieved.
