Abstract

The fracture of adhesive junctions between two rubbers which are bound together by connectors, i.e., polymer chains which are chemically identical to the rubbers is studied. The one-stitch case in which each adhesive chain crosses the interface only once has been discussed previously. We focus here on the many-stitch case, in which each connector crosses the interface many times. A dynamical equation for fracture is derived. In the quasi-static limit, it is found that the fracture energy is not much larger than that in the one-stitch problem
