Abstract

1. 1. An adenosine deaminase (mol. wt. estimated: 130,000–140,000) which optimally acts at pH 4·5 and is stable at pH 5–6 was partially purified from the clam midgut gland. 2. 2. Disc electrophoresis under suitable pH conditions was attempted to determine its purity and a single band was finally obtained. The location of the enzyme on the stained bands was determined by comparison with unstained gel sections with the activity detected by a simple Nesslerization method.
