Abstract

A 55-year-old asymptomatic man was referred to our hospital for further examination of a duodenal tumor detected by esophagogastroduodenoscopic screening. Hypotonic duodenography showed a 15-mm protruding lesion, with a surface depression, in the transverse portion of the duodenum (FigureA,arrowheads). It was diagnosed endoscopically as a semipedunculated type of submucosal tumor with an irregular fissure on the top (like a pomegranate) (FigureB). Biopsy specimens taken from the center of the fissure showed it to be an adenocarcinoma.
