Abstract

Adducts Ph 3PGaI 3 and Ph 3AsGaI 3 obtained by adding the ligands to Et 2OGaI 3 have been investigated by 71Ga NMR, IR/Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Et 2OInI 3 with Ph 3P gives (Ph 3P) 3(InI 3) 2. Ph 3As yields (Ph 3As) 3(InI 3) 2· H 2O as rhombohedral crystals whose structure was solved by X-ray diffraction. Both these indium complexes contain Ph 3EInI 3 molecules alongside five-coordinate adducts (Ph 3E) 2InI 3 with the Ph 3E ligands attached in axial sites by long and unequal bonds to a planar InI 3 unit. Vibrational assignments are made for Ph 3PGaI 3, Ph 3AsGaI 3, Ph 3EInI 3 and (Ph 3E) 2InI 3 (E = P or As).
