Abstract

Abstract This chapter explores how to address student creative intentions through the compositional step of revising and editing. It is examined through the lens of both student composer and teacher mentor within the context of the online music composition community, Music-COMP (https://music-comp.org). Two student compositions at different levels of compositional skill are shared, analyzed, and discussed. They exemplify students revising and editing their pieces to achieve their creative intentions, as well as teacher mentors working to help the students achieve those intentions, develop their compositions, and further their compositional skill. Both the music notation and written dialogue between the student composers and mentors are presented. Also included are recommendations for teachers to use as they mentor students during revision and editing.
