Abstract

The opioid epidemic continues to be a growing public health concern in the United States, with Black mothers who have young children being a particularly vulnerable population. In this review, the authors first summarize the mental and physical health disparities faced by this population from the perspective of minority stress theory, considering the role of racial discrimination, gender stigma, trauma, parenting and other life stressors.
