Additive maps preserving the ascent and descent of operators

Abstract

Let L ( X ) and L ( Y ) be the algebras of all bounded linear operators on infinite dimensional complex Banach spaces X and Y , respectively. We characterize additive maps from L ( X ) onto L ( Y ) preserving different quantities such as the nullity, the defect, the ascent, and the descent of operators.
