Abstract

Powder properties play a vital role in the formability of additive manufacturing (AM) based on powder bed. In this study, the effects of Sc microalloying on powder properties and cracking behavior of René 104 superalloy prepared by selective laser melting (SLM) were systematically investigated. The powder properties of René 104 superalloy microalloyed by Sc are significantly improved and the enrichment of Mo, W and Zr elements in the interdendritic of René 104-Sc powder is ameliorated. Sc microalloying contributes to the 46.8% decrease in grain size, 13.9% improvement in nanohardness and the elimination of cracks. The cracking elimination is basically attributed to the refinement of grains and the significant reduction of impurities. This work is expected to provide a new idea for preparation of high-performance nickel-based superalloy and parts with crack-free by AM.
