Abstract

Owing to hot cracking, printing aerospace grade AA7050 is challenging via fusion-based additive manufacturing. Using a deformation-based additive process, here we show that forging-like tensile properties are achieved in additively manufactured AA7050 without chemical modification for the first time (excluding lubricant on feed-rod surfaces) — YS: 430 MPa; UTS: 491 MPa; elongation: 11.2% with T74 temper.
