Abstract

ABSTRACT A comprehensive investigation on the behaviour of the carbon black feedstock at the different stages of preheating section of carbon black manufacturing unit are reported. The results tends to emphasize the need to quantify the effect of thermal stress and demonstrate that the thermal treatment leads to some physical as well as chemical transformation to the feedstock, which may affect the stability and compatibility of the system and consequently alter the end product quality. An attempt is also made to regulate the feedstock stability by adding two different industrial petroleum products as additives at different stages of preheating section of carbon black production unit. A possible relationship between feed properties, additive treatment and preheating conditions is also defined.
