Abstract

Two additional genera of Actinopterygian fishes are reported from the Upper Stampian of Aix-en-Provence. The finding out of Amia sp. demonstrates at least the episodical occurrence of freshwater during the deposition of the gypsiferous marls. Lates aquensis, a new species of Perciform Fish is also described. This species suggests the existence of palaeogeo-graphical relations between Aix-en-Provence's basin and the Mesogean area at the end of Oligocene. Besides, it procures palaeoclimatic data which permit to predicate the presence of humid tropical conditions in Aix-en-Provence during the Stampian.
