Abstract

AbstractPile-foundation support the upper structure to the subgrade, it generally supports vertical loads, occasionally when the horizontal loads are found to be more dominant, it becomes an important consideration in the design. Pile foundations with combined loads are generally analyzed separately, however on the site, the two loads work simultaneously. In-Indonesia, particularly, loading tests do not performed once. Therefore, it does not account for the additional vertical displacement and lateral deflection. Therefore, this research was conducted to investigate and analyze, effect of horizontal loads or displacement on a single pile foundation in order to determine the impact of combined loads. It was also used to determine their relationship which is expected to be used as a reference in analyzing additional horizontal displacement through independent loading test. The process was in three stages with the first being the preliminary analysis through 2D Finite Element Method (2D-FEM) Plaxis2D8.6 while the second was an experimental test in the laboratory, and third, being the analysis through 3D-FEM Plaxis3DFoundation1.1 for validation with soil data and loading test on several projects in the field and the results showed the horizontal deflection increased significantly after reaching (Pu.D)/(Hu.L.E) ≥ 2.5 × 10−6. This increment is required to be considered in the design.KeywordsCombined-loadSingle-pileHorizontal-displacement
