Abstract

The application of functional transnasal endoscopic surgery for the treatment of chronic sinus disease has become widely accepted. The diagnostic and therapeutic potential provided by the transnasal endoscopic approach has allowed management of a variety of disorders other than inflammatory disease of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. Use of the endoscopic technique has allowed us to diagnose and treat such conditions as parasellar and sphenoid sinus masses, traumatic paranasal sinus cerebrospinal fluid leaks, and anterior cranial fossa bone and dural defects. Our techniques and indications for the endoscopic surgical approach in these cases will be discussed, and a comparison to previously reported methods made.
