Abstract

1. Thioacetic acid adds to allyl- and vinyl-trialkylsilanes in thedirection opposite to that required by Markovnikov's rule. The addition of ethanethiol to allyltrimethylsilane is also in the direction opposite to that required by the rule. 2. The hydrolysis of the organosilicon thiolacetic esters obtained in this way forms a general method for the preparation, in high yields, of organosilicon thiols in which the thiol group occupies the 8-, γ-, or δ-position with respect to silicon. 3. Twenty seven previously undescribed organosilicon compounds were synthesized.
