Abstract

The use of rich media is a fundamental to creating attractive applications. Adobe AIR applications can import and display PDF (Portable Document Format) files, and play local and remote video and audio files. In the past few years, Flash Player’s capabilities for playing audio and video files has grown considerably. Today, Flash player (and consequently AIR applications) can play videos in high definition (HD), using the H.264 video format. This option offers many possibilities to AIR application developers. Support for MP3 audio has grown tremendously as well, allowing for the creation of new and interesting audio effects in AIR applications. The video format supported by Flash Player (FLV) has become a standard for video distribution on the Web. With AIR applications, it’s also possible to bring this video format onto the desktop.
