Abstract
The effect of ion bombardment on the electron work functions, Φ of pure Al and Zn was reported earlier. A simple model is suggested for those observations in the present Addendum. Radiation was thought to change the metals’ Wigner-Seitz radius, rs which is the main parameter of Φ. Now rs is evaluated through the weighted mean of the densities of the virgin metal and of the ensemble of the displacements. The resultant function compares with the experimental data reasonably. The parameters give information on the yield of the recombination of the displacements and on the relative role of surface and bulk processes.
