Abstract
This article examines adat from the perspective of solidarity of the non-European population in Indonesia. In legal terms, adat is a part of the legal system that includes all (uncodified) customary law of the non-European population of Indonesia. It is pointed out that adat and adat law are similar concepts in the context of Indonesia. At the same time, adat is the most important tool for bringing peace and harmony back to the community. It is demonstrated that the basis of adat law is not an individual, but a community. Adat maintains solidarity in the Indonesian community by reflecting the moral ideals of religion and society. It is argued that the Indonesian Constitution of 1945 was developed on the basis of adat, thereby indicating the connection between adat and Indonesian law after Indonesia gained independence.
