Abstract

This paper presents an actively damped, long projecting fine boring tool. The tool contains a fully integrated, electromagnetic inertial mass damper with control and power electronics. The power supply is realized by a simple slip ring system. First the analysis of commercial modular fine boring tool systems is shown. Further, the requirements and the design as well as a first functionality test of the actively damped tool system are discussed. The chosen approach allows the integration of an active damper into a fine boring tool, without the loss of the modularity of the basic commercial tool system.
