Abstract

This paper proposes an adaptive transmission rate control scheme for available bit rate (ABR) services in the constant bit rate (CBR) and ABR services integrated direct sequence/code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) systems to shorten the average message delay time for ABR services with reducing interference power. In the proposed scheme, base stations allocate larger resources to users near base stations according to their transmit-power-level per bit so as to concentrate main inter-cell interference sources near the base stations, thereby inter-cell interference would be reduced in addition to performance improvement compared with fixed-bit-rate scheme. Computer simulation confirms that the average message delay time for the ABR services can be shortened at most 1/10 times in comparison to 32-kbps-fixed-bit-rate scheme with reducing interference power about 5 dB at 50% in cumulative distribution.
