Abstract

Finding the optimal operating cost economic dispatch with valve-point effect is difficult and challenging for deterministic methods because the fuel cost function is nonconvex. Nature inspired optimization algorithms are promising in solving non-convex and non-differentiable objective function. This paper presents Adaptive Rooted Tree Optimization (ARTO) algorithm for finding near optimal solution to ED problem. Three case studies on ED problems with non-convex objective functions were done to demonstrate the efficiency and applicability of the proposed method. The result of the study shows that ARTO is able to find competitive operational cost when compared with those obtained by other methods.
