Abstract

Most existing adaptive algorithms calculate playout times of voice packets by using the delay deviation obtained from observed network delays. Typically such approaches tend to overestimate network jitter and increase the variability of the playout delays and lateness loss rates among changing jitter levels. In our solution, the playout times are adjusted according to the observed inter arrival times. Experimental results show that the interarrival time metric leads to reduce changes in the playout delays and the lateness loss rates under fluctuation jitter conditions while maintain required lateness loss rate/end-to-end deIay for the VolP playout quality of service.
