Abstract

In this paper, we evaluate the performance of a spectral pooling system with adaptive modulation and coding. The whole communication spectrum is divided into N sub-bands, the cognitive users listen to the wireless channel and access to the unused spectrum. At the physical layer, adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) based on rate-compatible low-density parity-check codes (RC-LDPC) is adopted in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) fading channels. Numerical results show that the application of AMC based on RC-LDPC codes can achieve considerable spectral efficiency gain in cognitive radio networks.
