Abstract

This paper proposes an adaptive framework for optimising energy efficiency in large scale antenna systems (LSAS) by utilising knowledge about the users’ requirement and properties in a novel discontinuous transmission (DTx) scheme. The users’ requirement includes bit rate and latency while the users’ properties include pathloss between the Macro basestation (MBS) and users, and information about the average received interference by each user. The proposed DTx divides the transmission into L scheduled transmissions (STs). In each ST, one or more users will be released from the overall scheduled transmission hence, leaving more spectrum for the remaining users that require longer transmission. It will be shown that the proposed scheme provides energy efficiency (EE) and Quality of Service (QoS) improvement for various number of users. This demonstrates that DTx based LSAS is an effective candidate for future cellular network for suburban and rural area.
