Abstract

Carrier frequency offset (CFO) is a serious drawback in OFDM systems. CFO is caused by the mismatch of the oscillators between the transceivers, which is stationary, and by the doppler shift, which may change from time to time. The variation of the offset caused by the doppler shift makes many existing estimation algorithms fail. In this paper, we propose an adaptive LMS-like algorithm for the estimation of the CFO in OFDM systems, which can trace the variation of the frequency offset caused by the doppler shift. CFO can be divided into an integer part and a fractional part. The proposed LMS-like algorithm can estimate the integer and fractional parts simultaneously, and it exhibits a wide estimation range. Simulation results show that the proposed LMS-like algorithm is effective and reliable in OFDM systems.
