Abstract

Dynamic control of the filter length during initial adaptation for the adaptive LMS transversal filter is proposed. Theoretical analysis of the influence of the filter length on the convergence speed and the steady-state error is presented for the channel estimator and the channel equaliser. Simulation results performed for the channel estimation and equalisation of a telephone channel show that a significant gain in the convergence speed can be achieved over that for the constant length adaptive filter.
