Abstract

The sport of golfing has expanded to gain global mainstream popularity across a diverse collection of demographic groups. The challenge of striving to acquire a greater skill level, collegiality, and the natural beauty of the course are aspects of the game enjoyed by avid golfers and infrequent participants alike. Adaptations to the official rules of the game and code of conduct afforded by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) have enabled many individuals with disabilities to participate in both recreational and tournament events over the past several decades. Multiple organizations have successfully formed and lobbied for implementation of ADA legislation to create properly accessible golf facilities for all individuals. The equipment industry has kept pace by engineering adaptive devices to assist a broad spectrum of disabled golfers. As a result, adaptive golf is thriving and serving to build a community focused on a message of ability despite physical or mental limitations.
