Abstract

Signal transmission in a mobile radio communication system is characterised by time-varying fluctuation in the received power (fading). With regard to the design of efficient source and channel coding methods, the exact knowledge of physical causes of symbol errors is not necessary. However, channel models which simulate typical error structures are of great importance. A stochastic modeling of real mobile radio communication systems requires a flexible model because the statistical properties of the fading channel can change significantly during the communication between the base and mobile station. This paper presents digital channel models where flexibility is made possible by model-adaptation.
