Abstract

A method for simultaneous estimation of process parameters and process time delay is presented. It requires a minor extension of the original recursive least squares method. It allows for the parameter-adaptive control of dead-time processes without a priori information about the exact time delay. It also allows for tracking of time-varying process dead-time. The main importance is that the robustness of some types of self-tuning and adaptive control algorithms is substantially improved. The method is thus very promising from a practical point of view.
