Adaptive Cross Layer Design for Mobility Using Media Independent Handover

Abstract

The fading boundaries between wireless computer networks and mobile personal communication have lead to rapid growth in all fields of mobile communication which include deployment of communication system, advances in mobile techniques and services in heterogeneous network environment. Various layers of the protocol stack contribute in decision-making during network switching in such an environment. Various network and quality of service metric considered in proposed framework include flow rate (congestion measure), throughput, delay, jitter and packet loss. Thus, the proposed framework is a unified and global cross layer framework to overcome challenging problem of seamless access of wireless networks and services. Inter-layer and inter-network communication is implemented through IEEE 802.21 Media Independent Handover standard.
