Abstract

This paper presents a new type of self-tuning optimum start control scheme based on Dexter's self-tuning controller. It uses simple semi-empiri cally-derived relationships between the time required to preheat the building before occupancy and the measured temperatures. Through simulation, the behaviour of the control algorithm is investigated and performance evaluations made. Results are presented which show the good performance characteristics of the controllers developed when applied to real buildings, and which are suitable for low-cost microcomputer implementation.
