Abstract

In a 5G network, Network Slice is an independent end-to-end logical network that runs on shared physical infrastructure, capable of providing negotiated service quality. Currently, network slice consumer uses their network slice either in ‘‘Non-Shared’’ mode where they don’t share their network slice, or in ‘‘Shared’’ mode where they are using a shared network slice. We see a possibility of optimization of network slice usage pattern through which it is possible that based on traffic pattern or the way how consumers use network slice aligning it to their business needs, the consumer can dynamically keep on changing the pattern of using network slice in ‘‘Shared’’ or ‘‘Non-Shared’’ mode based on a set of predefined conditions. This would allow optimized usage of physical resources of network slice, and more revenue generation for Telecom Operator is possible as they can serve additional Consumers without the need of extending their existing physical resources of the network. At present, there is no formal mechanism to achieve the above described. This paper proposes a mechanism in the 5G network through which it is possible for network slice consumers to give input or feedback (as part of an agreement) regarding its traffic pattern or the way how consumers use network slice aligning their business needs to the Telecom Operator and accordingly share its preference (Shared’’/’’Non-Shared’’/’’ConditionalSharing’’) for network slice along with a set of conditions to define sharing of network slice.
