Abstract

The 3G cellular networks are being designed to provide high bit rate services, multimedia traffic, thus mobile communication is not only restricted to voice calls. The suitable solution to the bandwidth limitation is the smart antenna [1].These smart antennas dynamically adapt to changing traffic requirements providing maximum gain in the direction of user and minimum gain in the direction of user. Smart antennas are usually employed at the base station and radiate narrow beams to serve different users. SDMA (space division multiple access) is used for this reason. The smart antennas are classified as adaptive antenna and switched beam antennas.
