Abstract

SummaryThe suggested modifications make it possible to adapt the original method of Hitchcock‐Divine to alkyl benzene sulfonates and similar types of synthetics which cannot be hydrolyzed. Alcohol instead of water solutions of the sample are used to eliminate foaming. An electric mantle, a CO2‐free stream of steam, or both can be used to prevent the solutions from “bumping” while boiling under vacuum.
