Abstract

A pump with sinusoidal piston movement was connected to the abdominal aorta of intact anesthetized dogs, causing slow oscillations of arterial blood pressure. Evidence was found for the existence of a mechanism which enables the heart to adjust its output immediately to changes of peripheral outflow.
