Abstract

The objective of this research was to evaluate the adaptability and yield stability of common bean elite lines in the Rio Grande do Sul State. Eight elite lines of the different breeding programs of Brazil and four comercial cultivars were evaluated in the 12 environment, in the RS, during the biennium 2004 and 2005. The adaptability and stability estimates were obtained for the methods of Eberhart & Russel and Lin & Binns, modified to Carneiro. Significative genotypes with environments interaction was to observated to grain yield showed different response to the locations, years and planting times. The results showed that methods were coincided to identify genotypes with yield stability ('CHP 99-54' and 'SCS 202 Guara'), with adaptability to favorable environment ('TB 98-20') and unfavorable environment ('Guapo Brilhante'). The 'CHP 99-54' and 'SCS 202 Guara' genotypes showed grain yield above general mean, broad adaptability and yield stability, and the genotypes are recommend to register in the RNC, to cultivation in the RS state, for the breeding program obtainment of the common bean cultivar.
