Abstract

Indroduction/Aim. The aim of the study was the adaptation and validation of the scale designed to assess the development of nursing competencies among nursing students (ACS, Ascent is Nursing Competence Scale), the suggested Polish name: The Scale of Development Nursing Competence The scale consists of three areas concerning the conduct of student-nurse. The first are a examines cooperation in the student-nurse relationship with the tutor/teacher (W1–W6), the second examines the student-nurse’s need for belonging to the group (B1–B17), the third area allows the assessment of student-nurse’s knowledge and skills (L1–L13). Material and method. The study included 110 nursing students of the first year master degree at Medical University of Lublin. Results. The adaptive procedure allows to demonstrate that the adapted scale fulfils the psychometric criteria for an acceptable level. Three areas of the Scale of Development Nursing Competence is characterized by high accuracy and reliability. Conclusions. The study indicates that the Polish language version of the research tool: Ascent to Nursing Competence Scale is easy to use and can effectively differentiate the examined agents. The tool can assess the development of nursing competences. Three areas of adapted tool (student–nurse collaboration with the tutor/teacher (W1–W6), student’s need of belonging to the group (B1–B17), student–nurses’ knowledge and skills (L1–L13).
