Abstract

This paper provides an overview of Next Generation Computer Resources (NGCR) program and, in particular, the Operating Systems Standards Working Group (OSSWG) and its present status in defining a standard Operating System Interface (OSIF). This brief background is followed by an outline of the technical issues addressed by the OSSWG with respect to system characteristics, application domains, system OSIF requirements, and details of the Ada interface requirements for the Navy's future real-time systems. In conclusion a projected concept of the OSIF standard utilization is provided.
