Abstract

A 16-year-old boy presented with fever, painful swelling, and right-side tenderness of the anterior aspect of his lower neck. CT of the neck demonstrated a low-attenuation area of approximately 7.0 cm × 4.1 cm × 6.4 cm containing air and peripheral contrast enhancement on the right side, consistent with abscess formation (Fig. 1). A barium swallow study showed extravasation of contrast material from the right piriform fossa to the thyroid gland (Fig. 2). The patient eventually underwent surgical excision of the piriform sinus fistula.
