Abstract

FAST-TRACK CARDIAC ANESTHESIA has become one of the standards of postoperative care in cardiac surgery. Ultra–fast-track anesthesia means immediate extubation in the operating room; this technique has also become useful in cardiac surgery.1 In the authors’ hospital setting, 800 patients have been immediately extubated after all types of cardiac surgery in the operating room since the implementation of an ultra–fast-track program at the end of 2001. The majority of these patients received a combined general/epidural anesthetic.
