Abstract

Abstract : After a brief discussion of the biologic effects of ionizing radiation, the author examines the pathology and clinical features of the Acute Radiation Syndrome, comprised of central nervous system, gastrointestinal, and hematopoietic phases. The currently accepted modes of treatment are included in this discussion. There is also a section on non-penetrating radiation exposure and decontamination procedures, and some guidelines for management of the many radiation casualties that would be seen in nuclear warfare.
