Abstract
Earlier this year the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health and the Healthcare Commission both published reports looking into acute inpatient psychiatric wards. Both produced gloomy findings. The former, Acute Care 2004, was based on a survey of chief executives and ward managers across England (SCMH 2005).
