Abstract

ACUTE pancreatitis as a complication of surgical operations on organs adjacent to the pancreas has been recognized for many years. Because it has been regarded generally as a rare occurrence attributable to direct injury to the pancreas or, in operations on the biliary tract, to reflux of bile into the pancreatic duct, the subject has not received adequate attention in the literature.
