Abstract

Goats are at risk of poisoning if they gain access to toxic plants. The clinical signs depend on the plant involved and there are many different poisonous plants but it is possible to group some together by the toxic compounds they contain. The clinical signs and treatment recommendations for poisoning with plants containing cardiac glycosides, cyanogenic glycosides, grayanotoxins, protoanemonin and taxane alkaloids are described. In goats poisoning is particularly common with Rhododendron species and Pieris species, which contain grayanotoxins, and Prunus species containing cyanogenic glycosides. 10.12968/live.2016.21.5.300
