Abstract

A previously well 23-year-old female presented to the accident and emergency department with a 2 week history of left neck swelling, dysphagia and neck pain which was not responding to oral antibiotics. On examination she was tachycardic and had a temperature of 38.8 C. There was an 11 cm611 cm firm, tender swelling over the left anterior triangle of the neck. There was also decreased air entry over the left lung base. She had a profound neutrophilia. A chest X-ray was performed (Figure 1) which was followed by aCT scan (Figures 2–4).What is your diagnosis?
