Abstract

A gunshot injury is a type of penetrating trauma of the thoracic wall. The clinical presentation depends on the size of the wound, the size of the bullet, the location of entry, damage of the great vessels, perforation of the cardiac wall, and the presence of pericardial effusion. Different complications have been reported after gunshot wound such as hemorrhage (intrathoracic and extrathoracic), systemic air embolism, pericardial tamponade, great vessel injuries, and peripheral ischemia. Dissection of the vessels, coronary arteriovenous fistula, and pellet embolization can also be seen after gunshot injury.
