Abstract

Acute kidney injury (AKI) occurs in up to 50% of patients after open cardiac surgery, and it is associated with significantly increased morbidity and mortality. Up to 3% of patients need renal replacement therapy (RRT) due to severe AKI. The need for RRT further impairs outcome of those patients. The aim of this study was to investigate risks for RRT after open cardiac surgery in Finland.
